A few purchases I got in the sale recently -
My old peg bag had seen better days, so it was time for a new one.... And we're going on holiday at the end of June and as we're flying I wanted some luggage tags - and they may as well be pretty ones :)
I had a few items to return to exchange recently so I decided upon this pretty skirt -
However, it needed some tweaking. I don't know who the Cath Kidston designers model their clothing on but it certainly isn't 5.3ft teeny women like me! This skirt started off very unflattering and frumpy looking on me. Probably not helped by the fact that it ended up calf length as I wear things like this low on my hips (the gathered elasticated waist band was not flattering worn around my waist!). I knew I was going to have to take it up at the hem. Luckily being a sewer I have the means of doing this...
After putting it off for a few weeks I finally did it - I cut a few inches off the bottom and re-hemmed it (not an easy task on a bias cut skirt!!). But I did it and it looks fine, no-one would ever know it had been tinkered with. So here's the before and after -
Before - so, so long! After, a much more flattering knee length.
This isn't the first item of Cath Kidston wear I've had to alter, I recently bought myself an apron (also in the sale) and was surprised to find it didn't have an adjustable neck strap. I don't think it would even have sat properly on a 6ft tall woman, never mind me.
This is the before pic - I don't have an after one, but I added some metal D-rings so the neck became adjustable and I also had to cut about 4" off the bottom as it was way down at my ankles!
One last pretty purchase was these lovely hairslides -
